Backa från era orimliga hyreskrav, SGS (Step Down from Your Unreasonable Demands, SGS)

Vi är hyresgäster hos Stiftelsen Göteborgs studentbostäder (SGS). Vi är studenter som lever på CSN varje månad. Vi är många och djupt oroade inför kommande hyreshöjningar.

Förra året ville SGS höja vår hyra med 8,7%, ett bud som inte resulterade i någon överenskommelse med den andra förhandlande parten: Hyresgästföreningen. Detta ledde i sin tur till att höjningen fick beslutas av Hyresmarknadskommittén och beskedet för oss studenter blev en hyreshöjning på 4,6 % för 2023.

I år är budet ännu högre på 9,1 % och vi är många som oroar oss för att SGS inte tycks se problemet med att återigen presentera ett fullkomligt orimligt hyreskrav.

En 9,1 %-höjning skulle leda till att 52 procent av våra studiebidrag och studielån skulle behöva läggas på bostadshyra. Hur ska vi studenter ha råd, egentligen?

Inte nog med det, har SGS de senaste två åren meddelat den slutgiltiga hyreshöjningen i maj, en månad då vi studenter endast får halva studiebidraget och studielånet. Dessutom tvingas vi betala hela den retroaktiva höjningen på en och samma hyresavi, detta trots att de flesta fastighetsägare delar upp den ökade kostnaden mellan olika avier.

Hur motiverar SGS stiftelsens affärsidé ”att erbjuda ändamålsenliga och attraktiva bostäder till högskolestuderande”, om studenterna inte har råd att bo där?

Vi kräver att SGS:
- Backar från sina orimliga hyreskrav.
- Når en överenskommelse med Hyresgästföreningen i syfte att lösa hyreshöjningarna 2024 utan att det går till högre instanser.
- Delar upp hyreshöjningen för 2024 på tre separata hyresavier.

We are tenants of the Foundation of Student Housing in Gothenburg (SGS). We are students who live off the CSN we receive each month. We are many, and we are deeply worried about the increasing costs of rent.

Last year SGS wanted to increase our rent by 8,7 %, a demand which did not result in an agreement with the counter negotiator: the Union of Tentants. This meant that the question had to be settled by the National Committee for the Rental Market, and the result we students got was a rent increase by 4,6 % in 2023.

This year the demand is even higher at 9,1 %, and many of us are worried that SGS once again fail to realise the problems of such an unreasonable increase.

An increase of 9,1 % means that 52 percent of our student welfare and loans will be spent on paying rent. How are we students supposed to afford this cost of living?

And this is not all. The last two years SGS has announced the settled rent increase in May, the same month that we receive only half of our student income. In addition to this, we are forced to pay the increased rent retroactively during the month it is announced. By contrast, most landlords decide to split this cost on multiple monthly payments.

How does SGS motivate the business idea of their foundation, “to offer suitable and attractive housing for university students”, if students cannot afford that housing?

This list of signatures is an appeal to the highest representatives of SGS: Magnus Paulsson, CEO SGS, Camilla Widman, chairperson board of directors SGS, Andreas Ruus, vice chairperson board of directors SGS.

We demand that SGS:
- Step down from their unreasonable rent increases.
- Negotiate an agreement with the Union of Tenants instead of seeking settlement by committee.
- Split the payment of retroactively increased rent over three months.
